This coffeecake's dark, mysterious, marvelously gingery flavor appeals to all ages and tastes. Beyond the usual great base of real butter, flour and fresh eggs, the pastry masters at our Bakehouse use an array of amazing ingredients to make this coffeecake. Crystallized and ground ginger, lots of dark molasses, a bit of brewed coffee, a splash of fresh orange juice, Indonesian cinnamon, cloves and (my personal favorite) Balinese long pepper.
It's ultra-moist and lasts and lasts—if it's hidden well. Let it loose on a table, though, and it's gone.
