Each fall Zingerman’s Bakehouse releases special limited edition challahs made with organic flour for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
It’s traditional for Eastern European Jews to bake challah in round, turban-like loaves to signify the desire for a full, complete year. Each is baked to order by hand, arriving wrapped in plastic and paper. They’re gorgeous, the color of toasted saffron, and the flavors are rich and sweet—everything the New Year should be.
For our raisin turban challahs, to make the New Year even richer, we take our classic challah dough already redolent with eggs and Michigan honey and we add a generous portion of extra-large Red Flame raisins and golden raisins soaked in Myers Dark Rum®.
This handmade bread's ingredients are organic wheat flour (organic flour, malted barley), water, raisins, egg yolk, honey, corn oil, rum, sea salt, and yeast.
Looking for other challahs? Just for Rosh Hashanah, we also offer a plain turban-shaped challah, and a spiced Moroccan-style challah (both made without any raisins).
Reserve now! The Raisin Turban Challahs will begin to ship on September 11th
