Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, arrives each year just about the time apples start to ripen in the orchards. Perhaps it's no surprise, then, that it's traditional to celebrate the holiday with a good, crisp, juicy apple. The apples—often eaten drizzled with or dipped in honey, another classic Rosh Hashanah traditional food—represent the wish for a sweet new year.
This year, we've found a great source of local apples from Will Bristol and his team at Brookwood Fruit Farm in Almont, Michigan. Brookwood is a fifth-generation farm that grows cherries, peaches, pears, and dozens of varieties of apples. We've brought in a few bushels of their newly ripened Paula Red apples just to ring in the holiday.
For our Sweet New Year Gift Box, we pack our colorful, cartooned box with six fresh Paula Red Apples, a jar of Snowberry Honey, and an Apple Honey Walnut Babka.
