Poppy Flower Hard Candies

Floral flavors are tricky. At their best, they can be delicate, lingering, lovely. Too often, though, they’re overpowering and end up tasting like potpourri—or even worse, like soap. These poppy flower hard candies suffer from none of those problems—quite the opposite. They are one of the best floral confections I’ve tasted in a long time.

They're made by Confiserie Florian in the south of France, just about a 30-minute drive from Nice and the Mediterranean shoreline. The pink candies have a fruity sweetness that reminds me of raspberry or watermelon, with just a whisper of a floral note. They melt slowly in your mouth, allowing you to savor that flavor for a long, long time.
