American Spoon Lemon Curd

An English alternative to jam.

In Britain, citrus curds—custardy, feather-light, bright spreads of whipped citrus, butter, and eggs—are commonly used as a substitute for jam. Of course, the most traditional way might be with a few scones and a nice cup of Earl Grey tea. You can follow that lead and try it on toast, too. Then I suggest you start expanding your horizons: cheesecake, cookies, coffee cake, fresh cheese, maybe even meat. I spread it on some just-grilled pork chops, and it was fantastic.

From American Spoon in Petoskey, Michigan, this lemon curd has bright, fresh, punchy flavor. It makes me think of spreadable lemonade—refreshing and tart, yet creamy and rich.
