Uganda Gibuzale Coffee

Roaster's Pick for January.

Perched on Uganda's eastern border with Kenya, the forested slopes of the extinct volcano Mount Elgon are home to a national park, dozens of species of monkeys and rare birds, and some excellent coffee production. Around the remote Gibuzale Washing Station, small coffee farmers working between 1,700 to 2,000 meters above sea level grow some exceptional beans. After harvest, at the beans are wash processed and then dried in the sun.
This mix of five local cultivars is bright and juicy, with white wine notes but a smooth, pleasant balance. Preparing this brew in a siphon pot or Aeropress brings out the brighter, juicy notes. The coffee’s beautiful balance and clean character are highlighted by preparing it as a pour over, with a Chemex, or in an immersion brewer.

Roast: Medium.
Body: Silky smooth.
Tasting Notes: Juicy, balanced, bright, winey, white grape.
FactsRoasted fresh by Zingerman’s Coffee Company. Shipped whole bean.
