Zambia Kasama Estate Coffee

Zambia Kasama Estate Coffee

Roaster's pick for spring!

The crew at Zingerman's Coffee Company taste all sorts of beans from all over the world. One of their driving passions is bringing little known productions from small farmers back to coffee lovers here in the states. This spring they're presenting a special "lot" from the Kasama Estate in Zambia, the landlocked nation in southeastern Africa.

Though coffee was introduced to Zambia back in the 1950s, the country has often been overshadowed by its famous coffee neighbors Kenya and Ethiopia. But those days are behind them. Now that the coffee world is highlighting and celebrating smaller operations with small, specific lots of beans, places like Zambia are finally getting the attention they deserve. These lots are gathered to hit specific flavor profiles, not just be a commodity mixed in with cheaper beans from other countries. That's why we refer to this as an "estate coffee"...meaning the entire process from harvest to drying to bagging is done by one operation with complete control over every step.

We found this coffee delightful from beginning to end. It is rich and complex with earthy, herbal notes and a finish like bittersweet cocoa. Perfect on a warm morning or cool evening with something sweet to complete the day.
