If you’ve been reading our catalog for any length of time, or if you’ve been a customer of Zingerman’s, you may know that Zingerman’s is a family of businesses in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We’re not family owned, there’s no one named Zingerman, but we all work as a team: at times independently, at times together, just like a family. Zingerman’s Delicatessen started it all in 1982. I started this company, the Mail Order business, in the mid 1990s. Today there are ten Zingerman’s businesses.
The Red Rage Barbecue Sauce was born inside Zingerman’s Roadhouse, est. 2003. It’s the member of our family that serves all-American food inside of an old Bill Knapp’s family restaurant on Ann Arbor’s west side.
The ingredient list alone will get your heart racing: ketchup, pilsner, apple cider vinegar, onions, muscovado brown sugar, molasses, honey, garlic, chili peppers, Turkish Urfa pepper, Roadhouse Joe Coffee, sea salt and Tellicherry black pepper. It’s a barbecue sauce that’s familiar enough at first taste, but quickly explodes in a new fantastic flavor firestorm. There is heat, but it’s a creeping, seeking heat that never gets in the way of the food.
Speaking of which, we created this for our slow smoked ribs and pulled pork. But you need not feel limited to those choices. By all means, expand its horizons. Make a marinade. Brush a burger. Slather on, my friends, slather on.
"I lost my best friend."
