Holy Mackerel

Mackerel is finally being noticed for its full, meaty flavor and versatility. These firm fillets of mackerel are packed in olive oil in northern Portugal. They join our other holiday fish stars—Christmas Sardines and Holiday Tuna—to complete our seasonal tinned triumvirate. Makes sense, too, since the flavor of this mackerel in olive oil is somewhere between the sweetness of tuna and the richness of sardines.
