For many years, we've sold Sandy Lee's Lebkuchen, the traditional Christmas cookies originially from Nuremberg, Germany, made by Sandy and her crew at Leckerlee in Colorado. Sandy and her team make them in the traditional manner, with loads of ground almonds and hazelnuts, egg whites, honey, spices, and just a bit of wheat flour to hold them all together. The result is a cookie with a texture between cake and marzipan that's packed with warm, spicy glavor and lasts a very, very long time.
Traditionally, lebkuchen are huge, with each cookie measuring about four inches in diameter. These ones break the mold: they're smaller, about two inches in diameter and half an inch tall. They come in a set of seven: four plain, and three dipped in chocolate. They're ideal for after dinner nibbles or tucking in a bag when you're on the go but want a small, sweet pick me up.
Packaged in a tin with a fun, wintry scene, they make a stunning—and super cute—gift.
Though the Lebkuchen contain no preservatives, they will keep for up to a couple of months—unless you're like me, and you plow through the tin in a matter of days.
