Chico Blonde Sushi-Grade Rice

This rice is grown, milled, and packaged all on the same family-run farm in northern California. Japonica Rice is a medium grain rice originally from Japan. Chico Rice uses the haiga-mai style for their blonde rice, semi-polishing it by removing only part of the bran layer. In keeping more of the grain than regular white rice, it has a great balance between the creamy texture of white rice and the flavors and nutrients of brown rice.

It’s a little nutty, a little sweet, a little earthy, and creamy. It tastes like rice, but more nuanced and with extra oomph, and the flavor lasts for a long time. Slightly stickier than long-grain varieties, it’s perfect for dishes where you want the rice to hold together a little more like sushi, stir fries, and rice bowls. But really it can be used in any recipe that calls for short or medium grain rice.
