Peru Corral de Piedra Coffee

Good coffee, doing good.

In the Andean highlands of northern Peru, a quiet revolution is fomenting. In 2004, after generations of male-dominated power structures and enduring poverty, hundreds of women coffee farmers came together to build a new future. They created Café Femenino, a cooperative to promote empowerment of women landowners and leaders.

This coffee comes from the Asociación de Productores Agropecuarios, or Asproagro for short. Asproagro is a collection of small coffee growers near the Corral de Piedra community in the northern Peruvian Andes. They are a member of Café Femenino, which is to say that the farms are women-owned and women-led. They grow their coffees—a mix of Bourbon, Catuai, and Typica beans—at elevations ranging from 1,000 to 1,800 meters.

The result is a complex and balanced brew with notes of citrus fruit, chocolate, and graham crackers. Prepared as a pourover it's particularly well balanced and delicious.
