In this farm-to-table era in which we live, it's good to know that chocolate is keeping up with the times.
These chocolate eggs are layed by chocolate chickens raised only on hand-shelled heirloom peanuts and tidy, snow-white piles of virgin sea salt. The eggs they lay on this exquisite diet are a miracle of nature, chocolate outside, with a peanut butter filling — organic, naturally — dappled in salt. The flavor is nothing short of extraordinary.
For my part, it's wonderful to see the old heirloom chocolate chicken breeds back in action. They've been lost for so long. A delicious treat for any Easter basket. Supplies limited.
*Author's note: There is no such thing as a chocolate chicken raised on peanuts and sea salt. At least none I know of. I got these eggs from Vosges Haut Chocolat in Chicago.
