Daphne Zepos was a great figure in the cheese world. She spent her life learning, teaching, sharing and mentoring in the world of cheesemakers, cheesemongers and cheese lovers. Sadly, she passed away far too soon, but the impact she had on many of us in the food world continues. She touched thousands of lives.
The Daphne Zepos Teaching Award (DZTA), developed from her vision, will grow a squad of cheese professionals who teach about the history, culture and techniques in making, aging and selling cheese. Each year someone new goes forth to learn about cheese. The scholarship funds travel and living expenses. The winner returns to share their learnings with the cheese community — at the annual American Cheese Society Conference and beyond. The scholarship is funded by the Daphne Zepos Endowment, a 501c(3) non-profit.
That’s what you are donating to here. Our goal is to raise $250,000 both through this site and by direct contributions (we're three quarters of the way there). The endowment is managed by a president and board of directors from the cheese industry who work for no pay. The endowment’s funds are safely invested and their annual returns fund the scholarship. With careful management, the scholarship will be offered in perpetuity.
Five dollars of every shirt's sale goes to the endowment. What you get in return is probably the most coveted garment among all Zingerman's employees. Behind the register or back in the kitchen, you'll see this hoodie everywhere at Zingerman's. It's an awesome shirt that supports an awesome cause very near and dear to our hearts.
Long sleeve T-shirt with a hood, no draw string. Silkscreened graphics. Loose fitting. Charcoal grey with flecks of lighter grey.
