You don't have to speak Italian to figure out the meaning of the name of this Southern Italian sauce. Calabria is the single region of Italy that really loves hot peppers (appropriately located down in the toe of the boot, where traditional Calabrian cooking can give you a good kick in the pants).
The sun and the soil combine to create the uniquely flavorful and spicy Calabrian cherry peppers that bring a sumptuous sweet heat to any dish. I like to add a dash of Salsa Atomica to a basic tomato sauce served on Rustichella Fettucine. You can add a spoonful to soups. In a pinch, spread it on toast, garnish with arugula and serve it up before dinner. A single spoonful adds an atomic blast of flavor to your food.
