What’s a bourbon bean?
Bourbon is an heirloom variety of coffee that’s been cultivated for centuries in many different countries. When brewed, they’re known for their depth, complexity and — my favorite — natural sweetness. It’s relatively high in acid, making it bright and clean and easy to drink for coffee connoisseurs of all levels.
After sampling a few different coffees from Rwanda, Steve—head roaster of Zingerman’s Coffee Company—selected this one from the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative.
“This is one of the most complex coffees I’ve ever tasted,” Steve said. “The best Rwandan coffees have all their components working in unison. This coffee has a floral aroma, a silky body and a long clean finish that—added together, are greater than the sum of their parts.”
Body: Silky smooth, clean.
Tasting Notes: Floral aroma, sweet and bright with notes of high acidity and lingering flavors of milk chocolate. Very complex.
Facts: Roasted fresh by Zingerman’s Coffee Company. Shipped whole bean.
