Antique French Tastevin

A sommelier's tool from Burgundy.

A tastevin is the traditional silver cup that dangles from a sommelier's neck, today a bit of ornament and jewelry. Originally a tastevin was a critical part of a sommelier's trade. Silver plated shallow copper cups were designed to capture as much light as possible amidst the dank, dark pre-electricty wine aging rooms. With a little candlelight and a tastevin a sommelier could judge the color and clarity of a wine.

Made around 1950 by Alain Patriarche.  A great gift for two a lucky wine lover.
